Seems to me I recall a whole bunch of AA fuelers, Funny Cars, and Pro
Stockers that use manually shifted "slush boxes".

True , real performance cars never have an auto (except for one particular
model that I saw from Ferrari) , but I think they end up being more
consistent , if not as fast , simply because of human error and variance .
