My 93 Dakota 4x4 has a similar plug, and yes its just a rubber plug that
serves as the fill/drain plug. Be cafeful so that you dont do any damage to
it when taking it out, they do leak after a while, I replaced mine at about
50,000 miles....$5. The diff fluid level should be just below the hole, so
nothing will come pouring out. Of course you could take the diff cover off,
but its a pain. I bought a fluid/oil change pump from an auto store for like
$10 and did mine. I replaced the very thick nasty fluid with Amsoil Synthetic
and noticed an nice increase on how far the truck would roll down a hill, so
its really good stuff with alot less friction than the blue stock crap thats
in there. Good Luck
