Russ,
Never seen a set of Pep Boys headers, but what you want to look for are two
fold, reliability and performance. for reliability you want thick head
flanges, thick walled tubes, preferably stainless steel construction and if
not, ceramic coating (you only want to put them on once right?
for performance, you want mandrel bent tubes (no kinks), large radius bends,
and smooth transistions between large ans small dia passages. You can
usually get these some of these things in most header designs, but its hard
to get all of them. I wont get into the short vs. long tube discussion,
other than to say the long tube headers are harder to install and prone to
more interference than short ones.

Exactly what is the major advantage of the headers from JBA, Gibson, etc.
compared to some of the cheaper styles such as the ones offered by pep boys
for $100 - $150. All l have seen are made from 14, 16, or 18 gauge and look
very similar. Sorry for the ignorance, but we all have to learn sometime.

Russ
