Subject: DML: 4x4 question
I got the pleasure of driving home last night (260 mi.) though much ice
and slush and crap and stupid people. Missed a 8 car pile up by a
couple of yards. The Dak did fine save for the radiator freezing over;
how's that happen with 160+ degree water inside????
--> ice is a good insulator ... first snow to hit rad would partially melt,
next snow would form ice, then the snow would begin to stick to the
outside...it is possible to overheat in the winter if you block your rad
with snow.
I did use 4wheel spin on an ice covered bridge, however the front end
did not disengage after I told it to. When I hit a dry(er) peice of
pavemnet, there was a loud pop from the front right wheel. Anyone have
a clue to what this could be? Trnasfer case fluid was changed about
20,000 ago and front dif fluid approx. the same time.

--> could have been your 4wd dis-engaging. I have been told that if the
driveline is torqued up a wee bit (ie. you're turning on dry pavement), the
transfer case will not always dis-engage immediately, even though the lever
is in the 2wd position until the torque is relieved. Or maybe your right
front wheel was locked (were you braking?) and it started to spin when it
hit dry pavement.
How do you know that 4wd did not disengage?
