the service manual states there is no substitute for the lube that goes in
and to buy only mopar fluid in this case.

The NVx500 family manuals require synthetic lube, donīt they? Have you
maybe tried Redline synthetics instead of the Valvoline specīd fluid?
Someone earlier on the list had said heīd done that.

The other possibility is that the pilot bearing, in the end of the crank,
is a bit loose.
