   I'm not sure what your problem might be as far as the engine shutting off,
(clogged fuel filter maybe?) but a 650 idle sounds normal. I'd consider 1,000
to be way too high. I've seen my 318 idle at 400 once, after a night at the
dragstrip. Usually it idles around 500-650 though.
