Yepper, sounds like you've got a problem, all right. :-)

Technically, you weren't giving it gas, you were giving it air; the gas
is provided by the computer. I don't know for sure what the problem is,
but I had a similar problem while doing some throttle body testing for
Frank and Bruce; that was a dead IAC. (Idle Air Control, on the back
of the TB.) What happened was my truck wouldn't idle until it went
into closed loop. I had to give it gas until then. If you want to test
this, what you can do is to take off the bonnet on the top of the TB, and
look down into the TB. behind the two throttle bores, you'll see a cavity
which has a plunger sticking into it. Once you've located that, disconnect
the negative cable from your battery, then stick your key in the ignition and
turn it to the on position. Go back to the engine and watch that plunger as
you reconnect the negative battery cable. The plunger should move; you
should see it back out and come back in. If it doesn't move, your IAC is
probably dead.

Something else you could try is to just disconnect the negative battery
cable for 5-10 minutes to reset the computer, and see if that helps.

Is the truck still under warranty? You can call Chrysler roadside
assistance at 1-800-521-2779. They'll ask for your name, VIN, license
plate number, location, and phone number. They'll dispatch a tow
truck or flatbed to take your Dak to the nearest dealer. (If you want
to go to a different dealer, you might have to pay for the extra miles.
I didn't when I used them.) If you have the extended warranty, this
service is free, and it might be included in the standard warranty too,
I don't know. Look through all the junk that came with your owner's
manual; there should be something about this in there somewhere or
in the owner's manual itself.

  Good luck!
