OK, here we go, I can't resist any longer. The first 10Kmi. I used regular
fossil based oil until I was sure the rings were seated and everything was
initially broken in. At that point I made the switch to synthetic (Mobil-1
in my case). It gets a filter change at 5Kmi., and an oil change at 10Kmi.
The oil will hold up, especially the synthetics', you just need to keep it
clean. I have maintained my other vehicle like this as well. It has approx.
170Kmi. on it presently and does not smoke or use a drop of oil. No
exaggeration! Everyone is going to have their own flavor (opinion and idea)
of dealing with oil changes. This works for me! Good-luck on your poll.

Back in the europe, oil change intervals are 12,000 miles or 12 months.
Hmmm, do they build better engines in europe - I doubt it. Places like
Jiffy-Lube just plain don't exist over there because there is no market.
When I was back in the UK over the summer, I hear that an american woman
went to get her oil changed at 3000 miles and the dealership REFUSED 'cause
they had only done it 3000 miles ago :)
Here in the US, I have a mechanic friend who uses synthetic oil and he
changes the filter every 3000 miles and the oil every 12 months, no mateer
what the mileage.
