I don't think so...
There's no such thing as "Proprietary Oil". It would be sooooo expensive
to have some kind of "special" custom made oil for a single transmission that
it would be well over what anyone would be willing to pay for it. Oil's
aren't overly complex, and I'm sure some of the experts here on the list could
tell you *Exactly* how they are graded. The NV3500 is in many makes of
vehicles, not just DC products, so it would stand to reason that they are
using an oil that is commonly available under type X, but they want to sell
"their" (mopar) oil.
My father uses Mobil 1 gear oil in his NV4500 and it works peachy-keen. I
could only assume it would work fine in an NV3500, since they are basically
the same transmission with different housings. I'll ask him for the specifics
on the gear oil, since I don't know if he gets a special kind. I don't think
manual transmissions are nearly as picky about the oils they use as the
automatics since all it is, is a lubricant.

the NV3500 takes a proprietary oil that only MOPAR sells. Funny thing is I
looked through the service manual's maintenance schedule and it does NOT
call for a change throughout 120k MI plan B. However, it does call for the
manual trans that comes with the v6. I bought the oil and plan on changing
it because I have scratched a few times.
