I like his methodology here. If the paper says 87, then 87 it should be
ping free????? I noticed my '97 Ram would ping when I floored it on the
highway. Typically happened at WOT and a descent speed. It is always
hot in FL, so I never paid attention to the temp outside,
hahahahaha..... My little R/T has been doing fine though. No pinging
at any condition, hmm......

Unless you have some kind of mod/mods on your truck that would
facilitate
the use of 93 octane fuel , the owners manual clearly states
that only 87
octane is required .
Like myself , others have noticed light pinging under WOT during
hot
weather while using 87 octane . Some have been told by the
dealer that they
need to just go up to 93 octane . This is not an acceptable
answer from
anyone to me . You can't put it in writing that a truck only
needs 87
octane and then just say to use 93 octane because there is a
problem . It's
not even legal .
I have been doing 93 here because I have that problem with 87
and I have
not been able to get it to the dealer yet cuz he is way far away
,but when
they tell me to run 93 , I will just chuckle and then chew them
up because
it has started to do it ever so slightly on 93 from time to time
.
If they tell you to run 93 , it's only prolonging the inevitable
until
after the warranty runs out .
Just my opinion
