Not to Disagree or start a VW love in,
but San Diego has what looks to be a bone stock 65 rag roof VW that turns
high 9s regulary at the track... No fiberglass, No engine sticking out of
the bay, its a completely restified vehicle too! Hate to meet er uh get
passed quickly by that on the street (where it lives/lurks most of the
time...) I got way too much ego for that! Like a cockroach on
Methamphetamine!

Know what can be even faster and quicker than one of those rice rockets? A
really built VW Beetle. Not the NewBeetles, but the old fashioned kind.
Running in the 12's is fairly straightforward for these cars. Get the
weight
down to about 1650 pounds, build a 200 horse 2 liter engine, bolt on some
sticky tires, and Zoom. A stout VW can pull the front tires off the ground
with sticky tires. Nitrous, turbos, superchargers, they are all used in the
hottest VW's. The fastest ones will run in the high 9's, but these are
race-
only "Pro-Stock" Volkswagens.

Just a warning - if you see a trick looking VW with a one piece fiberglass
front end, wheelie bars, and slicks, you had better be really ready to race.
