I'm not sure, but I would venture to guess that you have a small (pinhole)
leak somewhere. Usually a good way to check this is to get the engine good
'n' hot, then shut it down, and keep an eye on the engine & radiator for the
next 5-10 minutes. Usually this is when pressure (from steam) is greatest
since coolant is no longer flowing through the radiator. Be sure your
overflow is full when doing this.

I would think the reason you don't lose any fluid after a certain point is
because air is compressible (liquid is not); therefore, once you achieve a
certain air volume, your pressure levels out so there is not enough pressure
build-up to force coolant out of the pinhole.
