Dak-ers,

I can't help you with the vibration problem, but it is similiar to what
happened to me. When I picked my truck up in April of '94, it had a
slight noise in the driveline...somewhere. It sounded almost like
pinging. Well, I'd seen what unattended pinging would do to a piston
before, so I took it back to the dealer. I fought with them for a
couple of months about it, until I gave them the ultimatum of fix it or
keep it.

They decided the noise was coming from the driveshaft. They finally
drilled a hole in the end, and filled it partially with expanding foam
insulation. This stopped the noise. So, they ordered me a new
driveshaft. It vibrated. Like bloody hell, at any speed above walking.
I mean, I could feel it in the parking lot. And they supposedly test
drove it? Hah! So, they sent the new shaft off to a professional
balancer. No change. They got me another new driveshaft... same story.
They put my old shaft back in, and I've had many happy miles since with
no problems.

I just hope I never need a new driveshaft.
