RE:DML Power Woes

At the time of the romp (yesterday) I had a '98, CC, 5.2, auto, 3.92:1 LS
diff, K&N Drop in, 30x9.5 tires, and a shell on the truck (basically a stock
Dakota). I would guess the entire wieght of the Dak at 5000# give or take
100# (the shell isn't light, full carpeted fiberglass with lots n lots of
window glass). In a rare event, I had nothing in the bed (I'm usually hauling
stuff) which is why I accepted his challenge. As I said, I nailed him off the
line (which suprised me since I have the large tires on) but he just out did
me at the high end of 2nd gear. I would've expected to stay ahead of him all
the way to 60 (the speed limit so I back off then) but he caught me when I was
doing about 50-55, so I can only guess he was in the 60-65 range at the time.
Now his 6er may have more power in the upper bands so that may be why, but my
truck should have more power than him by at least 50hp and 80#torque, overall,
but his car probably weighs half what my Dak does. Like I said, I'm not
surpised, just curious why my 318 feels kinda dead in the mid-high powerband.
I can hit 40 in a heartbeat, but from there to 65 seems like a long trek.
If I got beat by that older one, I'm not looking forward to racing a new
Lexus, (the GS400 V8 cranks out 300 hp: stock) as it would clean my clock but
good... My roommate is buying a new GS300 (the v6) tomorrow. I think my Dak
could hang out with his 96 BMW 328isa for a while, but I think that new Lexus
would maul me in every aspect.

---original message---
Shaun,I have the RC 318 w/5spd and 3.92SG. I've done an exhaust mod,
flowmaster 2 chamber 3"in/out, TB modifications and I have yet to
install headers. It has a lot of power down low and no complaints
so far on the high end. Of course I haven't raced a lexus yet. At
the time of the race, what mods did you have?
