I have the stock 15x7 rims and their backspacing is about 5.5"
I've been trying to find out the backspacing for the stock 15x8 as
well. Just from appearance, the 15x8 stick out from the fender lip
just a bit ... my guess is that the backspacings for the 15x7 and
15x8 are the same.

A DMLer recently posted that the R/T 17x9 rims have a backspacing
of 6.5". If the above is accurate, then the 17x9 will stick out
further than the 15x8.

Another DMLer posted that he was running 17X8 (aftermarket) wheels
with 5.5" backspacing on the fronts and 17x9.5 with a backspacing of 7"
on the rears.

One caveat is that the above are all on 4x2 Dakotas.

BTW, if you decide to sell your rims this summer, I'd be interested
in two of them.
