>From my experience fluid problems cause slippage, not delayed unlocking
of
the torque converter. I would suspect you may have a faulty switch that
controls
the locking mechanism of the converter. You can replace this switch
when the
pan is off the transmission to change the fluid and filter (on GM
trannies anyway).
I'd also like to correct a statement I made a few days ago about the OD
unlocking
when you step on the brake. I was wrong. GM tranny's do that, but my
'98 R/T
does not. I tried it on the way home from work--after posting that
erroneous
comment which I presumed applied to all over-drive transmission,
regardless of brand).

Subject: DML: OD Problems....help!
Ok, so here's the deal. When going about 50, if I push it up to about
2600 rpm, the OD will disengage, and I get acceleration. This is
pushing it more than I used to have to.
Going about 70 or 80, I have to floor it before I get some kind of drop
(OD or gear, I really don't know). I used to just have to press the
pedal down about 50% to get OD to disengage, and acclerate like a bat
out of hell.
So what is going on? The fluid is dark red, and I'm planning on
changing it
and the filter this weekend.
Thanks,
Robert
