A new virus showed up Friday and hit thousands of computers around the world including hundreds here in Houston. It is nicknamed the Melissa virus. From today's Houston Chronicle, "The virus propagates by sending as many as 50 copies of itself to other computers at a time. The resulting avalanche of e-mail could be enough to overwhelm some computer system servers..."
"Important Message..." is usually in the Subject line. It comes with a Microsoft Word attachment that contains the virus. The attachment is named "list.doc" which, if opened, will list several pornographic Web sites. Don't open it and you won't spread the virus.
This is spreading rapidly and could come from someone you have learned to trust because he/she may not even know they are spreading it. Stay on your toes!
