Hello DAKers;
I am trying to change the front shocks on my '93 5.2L 2wd auto Dakota, but
can't get the upper nut off the shock stem. The shock is the type where end
of the shock's shaft is threaded, so when I turn the nut on the end, the
whole stem turns inside the shock. I am using a deep socket from inside
the engine compartment, so I can't get another wrench on the end of the
shaft to keep it from spinning.
My Haynes manual says to use a backup wrench on the upper nut. Is this a
special tool [never heard of a backup wrench], or do they just mean use
another wrench on the end of the shock. I havent taken my wheels off, but
it doesnt look like theres any room to get to the upper nut from outside
the wheel well.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks, Tony
