Subject: DML: weak link -auto

Dear fellow DML'er

Long time since I posted, I only want suggestions on
what I'm asking, minus the input about this whole 360
swap being stupied.

I have a 97 dakota v6, auto, reg cab, 4x2. 80K miles

I have also got a 360 that produces 348hp that I'm
going to put into my Dakota. I have worked out all the
issues of moter mounts, headers, front end suspension,
etc etc, and I'm going to be able to fit the engine.

I fear the "WEAK LINK" is going to be my transmission.
It is a 4 speed auto and it misses gears, and has
problems shifting at high rmp's with the v6 that is
bolted to it now. Should I replace the transmission
with something bigger or different or some how modify
the auto that I got now?

I want to keep the auto in it because I don't want to
have to install a clutch, swing a peddle, etc, etc.

Another $0.02 This the first and last truck that I
will buy with a auto.

Thanx, Brian

The A500 auto that comes with the V6 will probably not hold up to the V8
engine.Since you are changing the engine try to get a A518.If you can try to
get a transmission set up for your engine from racing transmission shop or
someone like Magnum Performance. It would be worth the money in the long
run.Look into a performance convertor while your at it.

Good Luck
