TOWING PROBLEM RESPONSE FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT!

From: Randy Fox (foxra@nad.adventist.org)
Date: Thu May 13 1999 - 16:39:06 EDT

My dealer just faxed me a copy of the letter ALL Dodge Dealers got from
Chrysler on Saturday, May 7, 1999.

What follows is the EXACT WORDING FROM THE LETTER:

Subject: R/T Towing Error

TO: All Dodge Dealers

You will soon be receiving a sticker to be placed on the Dakota page of
your Dodge Selection Center. The sticker calls out the fact that the
maximum towing capacity of the Dakota R/T is 2,000 pounds. Production
information printed earlier listed the Dakota R/T's maximum towing
capacity
at 6,400 pounds.

Please place this sticker over the appropriate chart area on the Dakota
Selection Center page to ensure that customers and prospects who visit
your showroom are aware that the Dakota R/T's maximum towing capacity
is 2,000 pounds. Also, please ensure that your sales and service staff
are
made aware of this change.

We will be advising purchasers of ALL 1998 and 1999 R/T's manufactured
prior to 2-19-99 of this change via letters to be mailed within the next
several
weeks. Units manufactured after that date contain a revision page in
their
Owner's Manual.

We will be sending two letters: one to purchasers of vehicles that
included the
Class IV hitch. These owners will receive the updated Owner's Manual
page
along with a check for $300.00 to cover the MSRP cost of the hitch and
an
additional $25.00 for any additional sales tax that may have been paid.
They
will be allowed to retain the hitch, but will be asked to affix a label
to it denoting
the 2,000 pound limitation.

A second letter will be sent to all remaining owners, merely advising
them of
the limitation along with the updated Owner's Manual page.

Regards,

Jim Julow
Vice President, Dodge Division

I called him and left a message asking how they plan to address the
issue
of after market hitches added by owners and the uselessness of the R/T,
given the reduced towing capacity. He hasn't called back yet.

I do not have a direct line, but you can call 248-512-2672, and ask for
Jim
Julow.
