Josh, take a look at this post of mine from a few days ago. It's fresh from
the archives and has some good info on the short belt thing......
-------------------------------------------

Jon, I used a 52 inch 5 rib belt last friday. It bypasses the alt, ac, and
ps.
I tried a 51 and it was just a tad too short. I got mine at autozone, it's
a kelly springfield 520K5 (meaning 52.0 inches, and 5 ribs). The 5 ribs did
not cause any problems at all, just make sure it's on the same 5 ribs on all
the pullies it goes around.

The way I routed mine is as follows...

ribs on crank, back on waterpump, ribs on alt, ribs on tensioner, and back
to
the crank.

With the 52 inch you can ALSO route it like this...

ribs on crank, back on waterpump, ribs on idler pully (between the alt and
ac
pully), ribs on tensioner, and back to crank. This way you bypass all
accesories
except the waterpump!

This setup (driving the alt) was good for about 2 tenths last week for me.
The 54" sounds long to me, unless there is some special way to route it. I
would try the 52" since you don't need to drive the ac anyway, just the
waterpump
and alt. Let me know if you have anymore question. I could put on my short
belt and take some photos if you need them. I'm pretty good at swapping
belts
now, lots of practice lately.... ;-)

Good luck.
