I have an s-trim Vortech on my 95 Ram. Out of the box, figure on about 4
lbs. boost in the 4,000 range. Installation, pretty much straight forward.
Oil dipstick tube can be a problem. Last time I checked, the kits were not
OBD-II approved. You need to plan on running some type of boost retard,
whether you use an ignition from MSD or Crane doesn't really matter. The
engines can be tuned for two dimensions, (normal driving and WOT). Forget
about tuning for heavy throttle low RPM conditions (third dimension). You
generally get these conditions when towing. The computer just doesn't know
about boost conditions (never set up for it and never will). The Vortech is
extremely noisy at and just off idle, but gets quite above 1,500 Rpm's.
Detonation as well as head gaskets are a problem (only four bolts around
each cylinder). Anyone who has supercharged the Magnum knows this and if
they tell you it's not a problem, then they aren't making any boost of any
consequence. Installation time is approx. 2 days, getting the engine set up
to handle the boost, 9 months. I am glad that I tried this, but if I had to
do it over again, I would not go the supercharged route. My two
cents.........
