Reading all the posts about K&N Gen II's, can't afford it now. I'm making my
own from 3" white PVC using 2 45deg. elbows & some straight sections to route
it to right side by original scoop location. Currently using 10x2.75 K&N
FABM. My ? is: I got a 6" K&N cone(#ru-3130) cause it has the 3 1/2 opening
to fit over the PVC. Is this cone big enough for a 318, or should I have
gotten the HUGE 9" long one? Fitment seemed to dictate the smaller cone, but
will I be choking my engine? As for the PVC, I'm sealing the inside gaps
between sections with blue RTV as I piece it together. Will the RTV stand up
to airflow? I don't want to be sucking blue bits into my T/B, but I figure if
it stands up to engine heat & solvents, then a little air shouldn't bother
it. I'm also building an isolation box out of a plastic ammo box to keep the
engine heat away from the cone. Will paint the whole setup with ceramic
aluminum exhaust spray paint when done, to help deflect the heat. Am I on the
right track here? If you all agree the 6" cone is OK, then I'll go ahead with
my brainchild. Kevin
