Hi all,
Ran by Lowes this weekend and bought a dryer hose and pipe insulating tape.
Then the wife and I cruised to our office building's underground parking,
popped the hood, and replaced the stock intake end (the part that pulls from
the wheel well) with the dryer hose, and I put insulation along the entire
ducting up to the intake on the throttle body - wow! INSTANT gratification,
and at $13! Although, I did replace my stock filter with the K&N
replacement (just the square one - no other mods, and still in the filter
box) about a year or so ago.
You can hear it sucking the air in now, and I've noticed that when I back
off the gas it doesn't slow down as fast as before; I assume because it's
getting more air and therefore creating greater combustion at any fuel
level. I suppose that the box is probably slowing down the air quite a bit,
and the hose between the box and the top of the engine gets pretty hot;
going to add more insulation tonight.
So now my question is: How can I tweek this further without spending more
than another ten or fifteen? I don't think the cold air idea that I had is
working as well as the ram air affect, and I drive mostly in town, so you
can imagine that I'm looking mostly at keeping it cool. On the interstate,
though, this thing really boogeys! I was simply chatting with my wife (who
helped me put it in) and then I looked down and we were going a hundred!
Wow! Of course, i slowed back down. But wow!
Note: For those thinking of doing this, I take no responsibility for it and
add that it's not the greatest power increase in the world; just an amazing
value to me at $13!
