I agree with Pat on the defunk relay. The only thing I would add is this.
If you replace the relay with one from Radio Shack, I would just run it
temporarily. In other words, once operational again, find a high quality
relay from a electronic supply house that is spec'ed for higher reliability.
Remember the environment in which it will be operation. Dust/dirt,
hot/cold, wet/dry, and how much vibration??? Just a preventitive thought
for down the road continued operation.

Sounds like the relay to me too. Wire it direct(bypass the relay) to be
sure. You can find relays at radio shack.
