Go buy an old Ford starter relay. The kind that weighs about two
pounds, and is a black bakelite cylinder with a steel bracket built in
with a bolt hole on each side. It has two very large copper threaded
rods, one on each side, and two smaller rods on the front. Power
across the smaller rods engages the relay to close the connection
between the large copper rods. These relays can handle a tremendous
amount of current, and are tough as nails. When one kicks in you can
hear it from inside the cabin, especially if it's mounted to the rear
firewall. <grin> Best of all, they're not all that expensive.
