Dual exhuast idea - sort of

I was looking at the dynomax homepage last night specifically the ultra
flow mufflers and their high performance catylatic converters and
noticed a set of applications that might be able to be made up as a sort
of dual exhaust. Their performane cat-back is availiable with dual
inlet/ dual outlet in a couple of sizes from I believe 2 1/4" up to 3"
with a couple of setups with differnt inlet/ outlet sizes. This is the
same for their ultra flow mufflers. Why couldn't you use a dual inlet/
out converter (since it has straight through pipes) and then carry that
back to the muffler which has the same setup? I know the pipes running
through the converter and the muffler would be sharing those parts to a
degree but the pipes are still straight through on each application.
wouldn't that still giver better flow than headers and a cat-back? I
know the owner of a loxcal muffler shop who could help me out but he
doesn't have a mandrel bender. I was thinking because of this, why not
run 3" pipe, non-mandrel bended, with the muffler and canverter with 3"
in/ out. I figured that this might give me the backpressure needed but
since it is 3" pipe it would still flow good for performance. I looked
under the truck tonight and there is plenty of room to run 2 3" pipes
together. For now I would hook into the stock maniflods but later I
could have him alter it to hook up to a set of headers. Anyone know if
you would have a problem with the law setting up an exhaust like this. I
was thinking that you could put in a cross-pipe before and after the cat
with bosses installed to hook up the factory O2 sensors. Any ideas good
or bad. Just thought it would be a neat thought. Sorry for such a long
post but the brain is really awake right now...that's rare.
