With my old BMX bike (Waaaaaaaaaaaay back when), I could always "chirp" the
rear wheel. Standing on one pedal at a start and pushing down as hard as
you could.
The "Granny Gear" is an extreme example. Unless you're going up a VERY
steep hill...I wouldn't even try that gear.

Are you talking bicycle here, Bernd? Cause I have to say,
taking off in granny gears is almost impossible. Push all
you want, your wheel isn't going far. When I ride my Trek,
I start in the highest gear I can physically manage, so in
a few rotations I have enough momentum to fly. I don't think
it's possible to break the tires loose on a bicycle start,too much weight on
the rear wheel. I've
only had one non-road-condition traction loss on that wheel and
that was braking. (hit the bottom of the hill/stoplight squealing,
sideways, and minus some rubber; but hey, it stopped, I didn't
run into a car again)
I'm not saying you are wrong, or right, but your analogy doesn't
work.

Easy to explain:
Take a 10-Speed. Stick it in 1st gear and you'll take off like a
champ. Stick it in 3rd or 4th and it's a little harder to take off...and,
most of the time, the rear wheel breaks loose - traction loss.
If you're looking for 1/4 mile performance, stick with the 3.90's. If you
looking for a "Highway Cruiser", stick with the 3.55's.
