I hated the JET, it confused the stock computer on my 99 5.2L to the point
it would not run right. My friend has a 98 3.9L that also had problems with
the chip. We both returned them to the shop we bought them and they showed
us a stack of 6 other JET chips from various other vehicles that were all
causing problems.
If you really want to do the same thing the jet does wire a resistor in
series with the IAT sensor. Thats it, thats what $239.00 buys you, a
resistor, a $0.12 part. I talked to an engineer at Hypertech for a while and
found that they purchased one to disassemble. I did make one myself and
found the same problems that the JET chip had. Most gains were good for only
a few minutes before the computer re-adjusted.
Today I ordered a Hypertech PTM, after grilling them for a while I found
that the PTM adds 16 horsepower by re-mapping the timing curve, nothing
else, just timing. The ICON does the same thing, but allows you to custom
program the curve through a laptop. The ICON has been dyno tested and proven
to work. I decided to order the Hypertech PTM because I don't want to wait
another 2 years for the Mopar SBEC.

P.S. I may be able to get a good group buy if anyone is SERIOUSLY
interested. I paid $259.00 for mine and wasn't even trying.

Subject: DML: Jet or Hypertech
|I recently placed an order with RV Performance. They seem pretty
|knowledgeable and were ready to deal to beat anyone else's prices. I've
|already received and installed my K&N Gen II, I just got the Gibson
|cat-back today (try to install tomorrow), but have noticed on the packing
|list they are sending me a Jet Stage II chip instead of the Hypertech PTM
|that I decided on. I think it was an honest mistake as the salesman and I
|discussed both before I decided. I haven't received it yet, should probably
|arrive tomorrow. Now my question. Should I return it and get the Hypertech
|I originally wanted or go ahead and keep it? Does anyone have an opinion on
|the two?
|
|All thoughts are appreciated.
