Are they really this much?

I headed out to one of the local mod shops today (Installations
Unlimited on Taft Rd. in N. Syracuse) and asked about the K&N FIPK for
my '99 318. They wanted $280 for it, and it's the disc style. I
thought the Dakota ones were similar to the QuickD intake/filter combo.

Is this really the going rate? I have a friend who got a FIPK for his
Bronco and it was under $150.

If $280 is "about right" for the K&N, I think I'm going to go for the
QuickD, at $100 less. Does the tube discolor at all? I thought I saw a
little tint on the pics at the website but those could have been
shadows.
