  You mean it was an open element (like a 14x3" or so) and they
wanted $280??? Ouch. :-( I've heard of the cone style going
at prices above $200 though.

  K&N is overpriced, and especially so if you go through a
middleman. If you're looking to save some cash, get a K&N
filter and do it yourself. I made a 14x3" open element for
about $70, almost identical to the K&N version which sold for
about $120. QuickD and the like are functionally equivalent
(or better) than the FIPK for a lot less money. Several
people have gone the really dirt cheap method and just bought
a cone filter and some PVC at the hardware store. At any
rate, you definitely don't want to spend almost $300 on
something so simple and cheap to build.
