TODD, First off, I have a 2000 RC 2wd 4.7L 5spd, I special ordered it in
July and got it in October. since then I have logged 1300 miles of alot of
fun. The new engine is just plane awesome, it seems like it just wont run
out of power, I took it to the drag strip and ran essentially the same 1/4
times as the RT's( 5.9L). I have observed atleast 15 mpg in the first 4
tanks of gas and as much as 18 mpg, all, hard, stop and go driving for the
most part. The engine will rev past 5000 easily with no falling off of
power, 2nd and 3rd gear are very strong, I ordered the 3.92 gears and she
will launch like a rocket. The service on the engine, I think is very easy,
gone are the use of plug wires which are always a cause of lost power and no
cap or rotor!! Spark plugs are located on top of the engine right beside the
fuel injectors, no more burned knuckles getting plugs out!!
Oil changes are easy, the filter is on the front of the engine similar to
the old Big block Chryslers of yesterday, and the oil filler tube on the
truck is huge and you don't need a funnel to replace the oil in the truck.
The 4.7L also comes with an electric fan as well as a standard clutch fan
for cooling, I'm sure someone will find out how to change the sensor in the
electric fan so it will run all the time and remove the HP robbing clutch
fan!
I was thinking the same thing you are about ordering an engine that is only
been out for a year in the Jeeps, but I look at this way, ain't know way DC
is going to replace and engine that came out back in 1967 with something
that hasn't been tested, and proven. I say go for it!! Also talk to Nate on
the DML, he just got his 2000 dak 4.7L 5spd CC 4x4 bla bla bla, he can also
tell you the same thing!! good luck, hope you don't have to wait as long as
Nate and myself for the factory order stuff!!

Vic,

I'm also a new member and looking at buying a 2000, 4X4, club cab, 5
speed with the 4.7, but I'm a little concerned about having the first
year of the engine in the Dakota.

>From the internet searching I have done for reviews of the 4.7 I have
found three articles worth reviewing:

1. Chrysler's New Cammer, from Mopar Action, by Richard Ehrenberg, whom I
believe is amoung us. This is the best article I have found. It is at:

2. Engine Technology, from motor age, by Jacques Gorden, Managing Editor,
at:

3. Road Test, from Car and Driver, on the '99 Grand Cherokee, at:

Does anyone know of a site like this for Grand Cherokee owners, where
feedback could be obtained ???

Any new suggested articles or opinions on the 4.7 and/or the 4.7 with a 5
speed would be welcomed.

Okay, now that I've satisfied that nagging voice in my head to be logical
and asked for feedback, I have to say, I test drove the rig and it was
FUN. It got up to 100 mph without a problem. It handled well and would
have easily gone faster if asked to.
