It depends where the voltage regulator is sensing from and where the
gage is tapped in. IF the battery is low it will draw alot of current
from the alternator which would lower voltage on the Alt/batt circuit.
The Voltage regulator would compensate by raising voltage. Places like
pip boys and western auto usually do free battery checks(if you will
trust their honesty).
