Other things to check are the coolant temperature sensor and the wiring from
the computer to the sensor. If there is a very high resistance, the
computer will think the engine is running cold and will set a very rich
mixture. You most likely will see black smoke coming from the exhaust.

The engine check light will most likely be on under this condition. You can
read the fault codes on the engine check light by turning the ignition on,
off, on, off, and on within a 5 second period. The light will blink a
number of times to display a digit followed by a short pause. The second
digit of the fault code will then display followed by a longer pause.
Another code will then display followed by a longer pause. The final
display will be a 55 indicating all codes have been read.
