Headers will run the engine cooler. They extract the exhaust more
effiecently, reducing the cylinder temp. This might be all you need. They
certainly wont make it run hotter.
If the dealer doesnt want you to change the thermostat, I'd say get a
new dealer. It'd only cost you about $10 max and the dealer would probably
never know anyway. Did you ever get the truck smogged? I'm curious to know
the results.
