You're getting your numbers all mixed up.
The 255 that you refer to is the widthin millimeters. The second number 65
is the percent of the sidewall of the first number--255. So you have
255/65, which means that 65 percent of 255 is the radius of one sidewall.
Quick math:165.75 mm. So your sidewall is 167.75 mm from the outside of the
tread to the point that the tire comes in cantact with the rim. In the same
manner the sidewall of the 235 that you mention is 176.25 mm. I assume we
are talking about the same rim so that makes the 235 a taller tire.
And it's skinnier as well so that's what you want for a snow tire.
Get the 235's.
