I don't doubt that you did what you said in the races, but I have a 96 z28
and most of my friends race f-bodies (z28/ta). The Dakota was my pops acquisition
a couple of years ago.
I do take issue with "An R/T or 4.7L 5spd with minor mods could easily
run with a Z28 and beat it!!.
Maybe if the driver sat there and tried to do an impressive burnout, but
that is the ONLY way.
My z BONE STOCK from the factory ran 14.0's and 14.1's at 98-99 mph with
2.0 -2.2 sixty foots on street tires. with simply exhaust, cold air, headers,
ported maf and gears it ran a 12.8@109 w/ 1.8 sixty foot. Not saying there
aren't people on the list who couldn't have beat it then - but NO WAY a "minor"
mods car is going to beat that.
Now if you find a driver who does a 6k clutch dump and wont let out on the
street, well yes, you will probably beat him. But a f-body (v8) in a good state
of tune (all 8 cylinders) will have no trouble with a "mild mod" car.
The 98+ are a new story. With stall, bolt ons and suspension there are stock
motored 98's running high 11's (11.98@111) at HRP. The automatics are nothing
to be laughed at - they are generally faster than the 6 speeds.
Not trying to start trouble (which is what I think will happen), but I have
to defend the honor of the f-bodies :).
If you want more info, http://www.camaroz28.com/messagebd is a good place
to check out times and what they are running
