If it's ready available and you can fit it in the budget, I would
personally opt for it. I've been driving since '55 and have seen/
been in a lot of driving emergency situations but there is always
something that will be unexpectant and new.
I've been in a couple of situations (black ice and heavily wind-driven
snow where I'm glad that I had ABS (Grand Caravan, not the Dakota).
The ABS mirrors 'pumping the brakes' but a heck of a lot faster than is
humanly possible thus avoiding locking the brakes and loosing steering
control. In an emergency stopping situation, the natural tendency
is to slam the foot on the brake pedal and push it hard. This locks
the brakes and steering control is gone.
There are techniques that can be learned from performance, driving schools
but I've found these schools to be expensive and you never practise
what you've learned on a regular basis so that it becomes a habit.
Hope this helps.
