I purchased a '95 manual for my '96. The manual shows the fuel filter on
the frame rail as well as the screen in the tank, but my '96 does not have
the one on the rail. I've thought about putting one on though several
times. (Haven't gotten there yet. :'B)

I believe Dodge went to in-the-tank fuel filters in 95 or 96. On my 93 the
fuel filter is on the driver's side frame rail. Takes about 10 minutes to
take the old one off and put the new one on. There is a filter 'screen' or
'sock' inside the tank also which acts as a filter on mine as well; I have
dropped my tank 4 times. I would bet your 96 Dak also has this in tank
'filter'. The Carter fuel pumps which are direct replacements are crap in my
opinion, so the less stress they have(by keeping the fuel filter clean, not
running gas low in the tank, etc) the longer they will last. Good Luck.
