There is more than "a lot of truth." It is a condition called "Heat soak."
It will not harm the motor at all just shut it down. You can see this
phenomenon
any time you drive the vehicle too operating temp and shut it off. Just shut
it off and turn the key to acc. and watch the gauge climb.
