Yup, sure will...I have a K&N Gen-II on my '97 Dakota V6. The heat shield
that K&N supplies with the kit work great.

Subject: DML: Homebrew Intake Questions

Ok, I asked about a week ago about offroaders having problems sucking
water when running Quick-D/K&N style intakes. Well, I wanted to get
some opinions on an idea I just had. I was looking thru a catalog I
have which sells K&N FIPK systems and I noticed in the pictures of them
installed that there is a little airdam type thing that goes behind
them. What I'm wondering is, what if I ran mine all the way to the
corner of the hood on the passenger side and put such and air dam on
mine, but also ran a dam underneath it. Just leaving the top and front
open, but leaving enough space so that air can still get underneath the
filter as well. This would solve any problems with water splashing up
into the filter (Which is my main concern), but would it still allow it
to perform as well?
