auburn, even though they make one for the 8 1/4, it does not fit all years.
The axles are also held in by c-clips which tend to be less than reliable.
also, the smaller the ring gear, the smaller the pinion, which makes it
weaker, but not by much. 8 3/4 will fit as you said, but you will have to
figure how to disable the rear anti-lock.
