I took a close look at the viper engine and trans once and came to the
conclusion that the swap would be VERY difficult.
Problem #1.
No starter, the V-6/V-8 starters bolt to the transmission, on a viper, the
starter bolts to the box.
Problem #2.
There is a difference in distance between input shafts on the trans. You can
use a Viper clutch disc and a 318/360 pressure plate.
Problem #3.
You would have to macine a custom spacer to fit the trans to the block. It
also appears that the viper block partially shrouds the flywheel. The truck
V-10 is different from a Viper engine.
Problem #4.
The shifter would be under your elbow in a Dakota.
The one plus would be that it would work O.K. if you used a whole Viper
engine/trans combo. (except for the shifter problem, maybe a custom shifter
handle would work)
