I had a 3.9 CC 2wd before my 4.7 CC 2wd. For the power gained the mpg diff
is negligable and even less so on the highway. I have a lead foot in town
and usually go 14 with the 3.9 and get 12-13 with the 4.7. On the highway
I usually go 5 over the limit and pass with abandon; with the 3.9 I got
about 20, with the 4.7, around 19.
But the difference in ususable power is tremendous.
And remember, I'm lead footed. So the V8s inefficiencies are likely
amplified given its lungs.
For me, the upcoming question is 4.7 or 5.7. I'm quite happy with the 4.7,
but man, the 4.7 design in 5.7 would be nothing short of awesome for a
stock motor.
