On my '96 (Gen II), when you press the button for the windshield defrost
vent, the A/C automatically kicks on. I hate this! I'd like to change mine
too.

Speaking of A/C, I'm going to wire in a separate thermostat for cool air
control. Something other than maximum cold as is your only option now, with
exception to sliding up the heat control, or constantly punching the on/off
button when you get hot or cold. (This was a bright design idea.) My old
'82 Toyota PU had separate thermostats for heat and A/C. It was fantastic.
It was the most appreciated feature of the truck.

Donald,
I have a switch like that on my gen II. Had the same on my old Toyotas. You
might check the dealer to see if one can be adapted to your application.
