Yeah, most people pull the heat shields out and ditch 'em, although you can
put them back in if you want to (they just stay in with spring action). I
don't have a compressor either, so I keep a can or two of compressed air
handy for blowing dirt out of orifices. TRUCK orifices. You can buy
criminally expensive canned air at office supply stores.
