I've posted this before, but when I first put my po-boy on my 2000 4.7 5speed I
reset the computer. After having to put it back to stock at a later date for
some warranty work I then put the po-boy back on without resetting the
computer. What I noticed about not resetting was that the mileage improved with
the first tankful of gas (which it didn't do the first time around) and there
was not the same percieved loss in low-end that I got when I reset the
computer. So, from my experience, specifically with the 4.7 only, NOT resetting
the computer for a fresh-air intake install is fine and probably desirable.
YMMV

Experiment with us. Don't switch the computer and compare the results of
those who did Dave.
