Boring a block to an oversize piston is common with a rebuild. At our
machine shop we try to stick to the smallest overbore necissary to accomidate
a clean even bore. A low mileage engine may only need to go .010 over,
granted they make pistons in that size. A standard overbore is .030". Rods
are usually not replaced unless they are bent, they just get reconditioned
and new bolts. The Mag 3.9's have a roller cam, there really is no need to
replace it, same with the lifters, just put them back in the same place they
came out of, clean them and reinstall, same with the pushrods, and rocker
arms. The heads will likely just need a simple valve job, we charge $95 for
a valve job. The crank will either need to be ground undersize, or polished,
and you will install new bearings, as well as a new timing chain and gears,
other than that, there is only assembely! Woo hoo, expect to pay about
$1,000 for a junkyard 3.9. You may want to try a local rebuilder, and
purchase a rebuildable 3.9 instead of a known good engine, since all you're
looking for is a core. Good luck!
