and download an MP3 player (or two) for DOS. Install and learn how to use
(should be a readme.txt file), then reboot the computer to DOS and see if it
plays the MP3s. If so, that solves your listening problem, but not your
recording problem. Your computer is likely too underpowered for recording
audio to CD, unless you have a burnproof recorder (e.g. - Plextor).
However, I have heard of people using 486's to burn CDs, you just need to
make sure EVERYTHING is closed out (except the OS and systray). See if you
can't find a DOS based recorder....
