Two questions (maybe dumb ones).

1. How would the retard effect the drivability/hp/etc?
2. Do you think the service advisor at my dealer would have a clue if I
asked (Ha!)?

I definitely have to get the idle variation thing fixed, and I think I'm
getting the knock (the truck makes a loud 'blat' sound under 1/2 to WOT).
